About Us - Poulet Anglais

Sustainable and Quality Poultry Supply

I started in poultry farming  when I left school in 1980. Initially I worked as a stockman for 3 years on various farms belonging to the family business before taking over the daily management of 6 farms producing approx 375,000 ducklings a year for Cherry Valley. By 1987 we were top of the group that had birds in very week. In 1987 we started producing broilers instead for Sullivans of Ripon, before moving over to Broiler Breeding in 1989 with 2 farms run under a management agreement by myself and a member of staff.

Following that I spent 6 months rearing replacement commercial layers for SAPPA before going back to managing a farm rearing ducks for CV again. In 3 years I took that farm up from nowhere to third in the  league table of 23 contract growers. I then spent 2 years growing broilers for Penwood Country Chicken, becoming their top grower in the process.

In 1995 I moved back into duck production as the Farms Manager for the 3rd largest producer in the UK at that time, Manor Farm Ducklings in Norfolk. In 1996 I moved to an organic farm in Notts and managed the rearing and processing of 2,000 birds per week for 3 years there, before moving to Sheepdrove Organic Farm in Berks where I designed, built and managed the top low throughput processing plant in the UK along with an organic poultry production unit I constructed which attracted visitors from around the world, and supplied Sainsburys as well as processing birds for Waitrose.

In 2000 I left having bought back one of the farms which used to belong to my family business along with the poultry breeder business which I’ve run ever since. Along the way I’ve farmed intensive poultry indoors consisting of broilers, broiler breeders and ducklings, and farmed extensively reared turkeys, geese, guinea fowl, ducklings, and a lot of chickens. I’ve managed two processing plants, and my own hatchery as well.

So currently I have 45 years of poultry knowledge, and if you need any advise, if I can help in any way then that advise is freely given.
